Welcome! You might be wondering, who starts a blog in 2025?! Me! I’m Sonya. Born and raised in the Midwest. One cool (pun intended) thing about me, I was diagnosed with Menopause the day before my 40th birthday (July 2024). My initial reason for starting a blog was to focus on navigating menopause and managing my symptoms, and taking care of my overall well-being. Then, as I began the creation phase, I realized I really just wanted a space to release my frustration, share my experiences, and build a lil community. My diagnosis is not my identity. But it does impact my life daily. So, I think the purpose of this blog, more accurately, is a space to yes, better understand what’s going on with my body and mind, but also a setting where I’ll have an opportunity to hopefully help others feel less alone or “crazy.” I’ve been in menopause for just over a year now, and I’ve only recently felt motivated to better understand menopause and discover how I can help myself cope with symptoms.
This blog will be fluid. Essentially, I’m starting a path toward education, or being more informed, and using my agency. I understand that my experience will vary from others’ because bodies, timelines, genetics, access to resources, and willingness vary across humans. To be clear, I am not an expert, or a doctor. I’m trying to figure it out as I go, and you’re welcome to come along.
Other things about me, which might set the tone and help to clarify how I function. I adore making people laugh. I’ve used humor my whole life; in glum times, in joyous moments, with strangers, to reduce awkwardness, and just because. I also enjoy watching TV, deep conversations, doing puzzles, cardio, reading, dancing, learning about new cultures, history, art (Surrealism & Impressionism are my faves), and music. I’ve been with my partner for 7+ years. My professional background involves education and psychology. I’m the oldest of eight. I have a diagnosis of ADHD – so I’ll probably stray into other non-menopause lanes like general women’s issues.
Perhaps you find yourself curious, interested, relating, or simply looking for a way to be a part of. Glad you’re here.
